Ethnological Heritage of Lendava and its Sorrounding Area

The exhibition shows the ethnological heritage of Lendava and its surrounding area from the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. The most important activities of the agricultural society of our region, namely agriculture, animal husbandry and crafts, are each represented by one object in the exhibition.

Ethnologic exhibition

The permanent exhibition in the Lendava Castle is divided into seven thematic sets. The first set presents items and photographs of growing and processing hemp and flax and the second part presents the role of textile goods in the economy of Hetés.

Exhibition of stone remains

A smaller lapidary is arranged in the hall of the Lendava Castle, which exhibits the stone remains of the onetime curtain wall of the castle and three baroque statues from the outskirts of Lendava.

György Zala (1858 – 1937) – sculptor, born in Dolnja Lendava

One of the most renowned residents of our town, the sculptor György Zala (1858-1937), was born in a middleclass family in Dolnja Lendava. His most famous work is definitely the Millennial Column on Heroes’ Square in Budapest.

Štefan Galič (1944-1997) – painter & graphic artist

Štefan Galič, born in Lendava, was in the wider Slovenian cultural area known primarily as a printmaker, and was one of the most recognized slovenian woodcut graphic artist in final third of the previous century. The Memorial Room offers visitors a view of his graphics, as well as his outstanding collection of more than 4000 butterflies from different parts of the world

A collection of small sculptures in bronze, created within the International Fine Arts Colony Lendava

From the beginning, the art and artistic field play an important role among the activities of the Institution of the Galerija-Muzej Lendava (GML). The International Fine Arts Colony Lendava is organized since 1973, where every year many unique works are made. Since 2005, the GML aquired its own mobile foundry, that has a major role inside the International Fine Arts Colony Lendava. With the help of this foundry, the institution is trying to keep ancient technics and knowledge of casting sculptures in bronze for future generations.

A permanent exhibition titled “Bourgeoisie, Typography and Umbrella Manufacturing of Lendava” has its home in the former residential home at 52 Glavna ulica.
